On Saturday 14th September a small group from the South East Region visited Deanland Airfield in East Sussex for a Fly-in and fund raiser for the Kent Surrey and Sussex (KSS) Air Ambulance. This was our first visit to this small grass airstrip and we could not have been made more welcome.

Blessed with sunshine all day we were given free access to view, photograph and sketch 72 visiting aeroplanes and several helicopters. Some unusual aircraft flew in including a Klemm L25, Currie Wot, Taylor JT1, DH87 Hornet Moth as well as the KSS Air Ambulance itself (AW169).

We enjoyed an excellent BBQ lunch and chatted with many of the other visitors who were interested in the Guild and our work.

Sally and Andy Stove joined us for the morning but at the end of the afternoon just Chris Tyler, Paul Millett and myself remained to review our work.

While somewhat dependent on good weather and accepting that aircraft came and went without much notice, this was a really excellent venue for sketching. I will try to organise something similar for next year and can highly recommend it as an enjoyable day out. The event also raised £4,230 for the KSS Air Ambulance.
