The Midland Region ran a Workshop meeting at the RAF Museum Midlands, Cosford with 14 artists taking part in the day’s activities. Midland Region Organiser Nigel Morris AGAvA organised and ran the event in the Crew Room on site, kindly made available for our use as a base throughout the day.
After tea and coffee on arrival, Nigel introduced the Workshop’s aims and purposes. The day was run as an experimental workshop, with artists using materials that they would not normally use. A good range of materials were in evidence during the day as requested by Nigel.
Another aspect of the workshop was to look at subjects in different ways to ’normal’, e.g. *draw parts of aircraft – nose, tail, or a group of aircraft together in unusual orientations etc *draw using different compositional techniques, such as cropping, and using colour in innovative ways.
Results and work from the day were reviewed via a usual critique session in the afternoon.
Our thanks go to Nigel Morris for organising a superb day, advising and giving us a lot to think about in innovative approaches to aviation art. Thanks also to Peter Maxwell and the team at the Museum for enabling use of the Crew Room and facilities, as well as good access to the Museum’s fantastic collection of aircraft and associated equipment, sets and displays.
