A beautiful sunny day out at the former RAF Kemble, now Cotswold Airport, saw several artists pitch up for sketching and a social.

Timed to coincide with two seat Spitfire experiences, we were not disappointed as the Merlin’s roar was soon filling the air and a bonus came in the shape of its fellow P51D Mustang also providing much envied passenger flights.

Our very own Guild air experience came in the guise of David Young, flying in from his home airfield of Bodmin way down in Cornwall, well 1hr 20mins away if you come by Vans RV12!

We started off with obligatory coffee, some having sampled the full English breakfast prior to meeting, and thought how we could better sitting in the sun on a raised deck looking over the large expanse of airfield dotted with airliners awaiting spares recovery, as well as very much alive warbirds and light aircraft….

Soon a lovely 1939 de Havilland Moth Minor alighted, with our Cornish airman David recognising the crew who had flown in, so with introductions made, there was the chance to give this very rare aircraft the once over for photos and sketching.

A lovely summer outing for us in the West Region, our thanks to Toni at Cotswold Airport for hosting us, to Simon and Dan for the tour of the Moth Minor, and to our members, some of whom combined actual aviation with art on the day.
