ALL THE LATEST NEWS AND ACTIVITIES FROM THE MIDLANDS REGION

No.1 School of Technical Training, RAF Cosford, Wednesday April 23rd, 2025

The first visit of 2025 to the main base at RAF Cosford saw nine Midland Region
members gathered in Hangar 146, one of the main training locations for No.1 School of Technical Training.

Before the day’s creative work commenced, it was a privilege and pleasure for me to present a Guild Medal to Pete Maxwell AGAvA, in recognition of the hard work and dedication he has given to the Guild over many years in administering the Guild’s gallery presence in the RAF Museum at Cosford.

Our host, Sqn Ldr Chris Wilson then explained to us some of the changes in the line-up of aircraft present in the hangar since our last visit. With the drawdown of the Hawk Mk1 and the
tranche-one Typhoons, the Schools of Aeronautical Engineering are benefiting from many new additions.

Whilst many of the Jaguars will be retained on site, some are going to pastures new in Museums and other establishments across the country, whilst the hangars at Cosford will be featuring more Hawks and Typhoons – and hopefully even some Pumas as time goes by.

We look forward to our next visit later in the year in October when hopefully, we’ll be able to work with Typhoons, and maybe Pumas too?

Until then, as ever, our thanks go to Chris Wilson and all at RAF Cosford for allowing our visits and making us feel so welcome.
